Ten reasons why we are movie freaks

India is being an underdeveloped or developing country yet feeds the movie industry almost 132 billion (13,800 Crores) every year, with an average of 1000 – 1500 movies being released. Despite the economical and political back ground let’s see the psychology behind people being movie freaks especially at this 21st century of technology and media revolution.
We all are movie lovers some way or the other. We might differ in the genre we watch, but despite the fact that the movie we watch is not going to help or improve our life and or our belief system; still we enjoy the charisma of the movie, music and its gestures. We might dislike the content, the making, the actors, and even the way it was presented, yet we try another movie where we try to compensate the disappointment with an alternative. Though we have a million reasons why we are movie freaks let’s discuss the ten points of our basic instincts towards movies and its magic.
1.     We Love To Escape : as human beings we don’t accept our reality as reality, (which in fact is true on a cosmic level). When we watch a movie we easily get connected with the world of fantasy and find some one doing what we were thinking or done in our own lives. Movies open a window of unreal world where we stay for a while, refresh (or regret) and come back. People who are content with their lives were not able to enjoy the movie as a person who is miserable with himself. Ignorance is bliss.

2.     The Music : Life seems to be so meaningful when you add an external element apart from the daily routine. Imagine a BGM for your professor, your manager, your parents, your siblings, girlfriend(s), wife… even your own self. Life with music is an ecstasy. In a movie you watch a life of people whose life is surrounded with music. Music being a good conductor of fine feelings sometimes pushes us back to watch a movie again even it’s of bad taste but with a good music.

3.     Crowd Psychology or Mob Psychology :  when is the last time you shouted, clapped or whistled all alone. Nay..!!! few things are prohibited in this world no matter who you are. Now imagine the theatre you are watching a movie you are all free to clap, shout, laugh, cry (even put your leg on somebody) with no offense. As human we are connected with every one someway or the other and this oneness comes out only on few occasions. This also serves as a let out to most of our anxieties, fears and uncertainties in a collective consciousness.

4.     Clandestine: we all have few things in common, one such thing is being secretive on few areas of our imagination or things happened in our past. Though we love - not to think or redo our mistakes, when we see somebody doing that mistake and going through the same consequences we once went through or going through (am not talking about marriage here J ) it gives a sense of relief and releases a happy hormone in our brain. No wonder few people love the bluntest movies ever made because some where they are connected with the most horrible secrets of their lives in it.

5.     Nostalgia: Yeah what fun it is to revisit our own past, friends alike, people, situations and our own self after ages. When you watch a movie which was released when you are a kid, teen or adult, your vine carries every bit of that time and age along with the scenes and songs of the movie. It’s a time when we love and embrace ourselves for what we are and what we have gone through in this life.

6.     Diversion:  It’s a generation of pressure, stress and uncertainty. We look out someone to keep us busy and help us to avoid this busyness or sickness in us. Despite mobile phones and internet trying its best still movies run first in the competition of keeping us distracted from the hard living and gives a temporary console. (we find even the internet is busy with movie or movie star related content flooding in to satisfy our thirst of diversion we badly need.)

7.     Criticism: if the world is made of people then people are made of criticism. No matter what you do or what you don’t there are people around all the time to criticise about you. We  love to criticise something, someone, anyone  all the time. Now when it comes for movies we get an unlimited access to criticise anyone we want in that movie. It starts from actor, actress to director, cameraman and even the makeup assistant. Now you have a whole movie to talk about and a whole lot of crew to chew with criticism. On the other hand the better you criticise the better you are understood (or misunderstood) as an elite intellectual being.

8.     Sight seeing : True! With just couple of dollars you can travel from India to America, korea, Japan, Europe or any part of the world. With the given technology and directors like James Cameroon and Christopher Nolan you are welcome to visit even the worlds that are not even in existence.

9.     Parallel Living : How many lives it will take us to find the personalities of all the people in the entire universe. Even you travel around the world in 30+ years how many people can you meet and get connected with. Here in movie we have a personality which we don’t even met in our wildest dreams. Our brain maps such personalities and loves to live a parallel life like the character that storms us for a while.

10.                         Unsatiated: Our biggest blessing in disguise is that nothing and no one can satisfy us completely. We are in search of satisfying ourselves in the conscious level of body, mind, spirit and soul. Movies play a vital role in our lives one to identify the areas of our heart and mind that needs satisfaction and two the ways to reach the same. The soul is an incomplete part of the body which is like the black hole that observes all emotions and asks for more, and we have movies that feed our minds and souls in a direct or indirect way. At least it fools us as if it does.
